Free Job Search Tracker

Sent 30 applications and lost track of which resume went where, or who you owed a follow-up? This tracker keeps every job on one row: the resume version you sent, proof you applied, and your next step with a date. It flags follow-ups that are overdue and applications that have gone quiet, so nothing has to live in your head. Built from the tracker I use for my own search. Free. No email required.

Works in any browser and in the Google Sheets app. Prefer Excel? Make your copy, then choose File, Download, Microsoft Excel.

What's inside

  • Start Here: applied, waiting, interviewing, offers, follow-ups overdue, and your next 10 actions, soonest first

  • Applications: one row per job. Five quick fit questions score a job before you spend an evening tailoring a resume for it

  • What's next: one column that reads your dates and tells you plainly, such as Overdue 3 d, Due today, Going quiet 17 d, or Likely no reply 40 d

  • Proof Bank: your results with numbers, and whether you can prove each one, ready for a resume or an interview answer

  • Resume Versions: each version you built, the kind of role it targets, where the file is, and what changed. When an employer calls, you know exactly what they read

How to start

  1. Make your copy. Add the jobs you are already chasing on Applications, one row each.

  2. Answer the five fit questions before you tailor a resume. Low score, move on.

  3. Give every open row a next action and a date. Check Start Here once a day.

Three habits that make it work

  • Check fit before you build. Five yes-or-no questions tell you if a job is worth a tailored resume.

  • A tailored resume is not an application. Mark a job Applied only when you have the confirmation email or screen.

  • Every open row gets a next action and a date. If it is not on the list, it lives in your head, and that is where follow-ups get lost.

Keep it safe

Never type a Social Security number, bank details, or job-site passwords into the tracker. Keep your copy in your own Google account and share it only by email with people you trust. Avoid "Anyone with the link."
