What it checks
Length: about how many pages at OPM's suggested format, and in a typical Word file
Contact information: email and phone
Every job: month and year dates, and hours per week
Federal jobs: series and grade, like GS-2003-12
Education: school, completion date, degree, and GPA when it helps
What to leave out: Social Security number, date of birth, classification markings
Military jargon and acronyms an HR specialist may not know
Results with numbers
Optional: words from the job announcement your resume doesn't use
Who it's for
Anyone applying on USAJOBS: veterans and people leaving the military, military spouses, federal employees moving up or changing agencies, and first-time applicants.
Common questions
Is the USAJOBS resume really limited to two pages?
Yes. Since September 27, 2025, USAJOBS blocks resumes longer than two pages, whether you upload one or use the resume builder. If a longer resume is your only resume, your application is not considered. A few jobs that ask for a CV, and some agencies outside the usual rules, say so in the announcement.
What does USAJOBS want on every job?
Employer and job title, start and end dates with month and year, hours worked per week, and how your work meets the job's qualifications. Federal jobs also need the series and grade.
What font and margins should I use?
OPM suggests a sans-serif font such as Arial or Calibri, half-inch margins, about 10-point text and 14-point headings, saved as a PDF of 5 MB or less.
I'm in the Guard or Reserve. How do I list hours per week?
Give an average. One weekend a month plus 15 days of annual training is about 6 hours per week. List full-time orders as their own entries.
Do my DD-214, SF-50, or transcripts count toward the two pages?
No. Upload them as separate documents when the announcement asks for them.
Does this tool save my resume?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is saved or sent anywhere.
Why I built this
Good people get screened out of federal jobs for missing hours per week or a third page. This catches the easy misses before HR does.

Federal Resume 2-Page Checker
USAJOBS takes resumes of two pages or less. Paste yours to see if it fits and if it has what USAJOBS asks for.
A first check, not a guarantee. This reads the words you paste. It can't see your file's formatting or judge whether you qualify. The job announcement always wins, so follow its "How to Apply" section.
2 (optional) Paste the job's qualifications
Shows words from the announcement that your resume doesn't use. Use the same words only where they are true for you.
Check these yourself
- The top of page 1 shows your most important qualifications for this job.
- Each job shows how you meet the announcement's required experience, at the level it asks for.
- Your file: 8.5 by 11 inch pages, PDF recommended, 5 MB or smaller. USAJOBS tells you in your profile's Documents tab if a resume is too long.
- No photo, and no personal details such as age, sex, or religion.
- Only one resume. Don't upload a second, longer resume under "Other documents." HR reviews only the two-page one.
- Supporting papers go separately. Your DD-214, SF-50, transcripts, and other documents are uploaded as their own files when the announcement asks for them.
- A second set of eyes. USAJOBS suggests having someone with a good eye for detail read it before you apply.
Built from OPM's guidance on the two-page limit and the USAJOBS Help Center, checked October 2026. The page count is an estimate at OPM's suggested format (sans-serif font, 10-point text, half-inch margins); your real file can differ. Independent free tool, not affiliated with OPM or USAJOBS. Nothing you paste is saved or sent.
